Flames was just about to bite into a mouse when he heard a roar. He knew something was coming and he instinctively hid behind his mother. He saw a badger lumber towards them. His mother bristled and tensed. The badger had an almost full grown cub behind it and both of the badgers lumbered forward. The cub bit down hard on Flames' left hind leg and clawed at his flank. Flames bit down hard on the cubs leg and the cub retreated. Flames searched for his mother. He saw her on the top floor bleeding heavily and dangerously close to the edge. The badger brought it's paws down hard on her back and she fell with a sickening thud. "Mama!" Flames cried, "Mama, don't die! Please don't die!" "Goodbye Flames, I love you." she mewed weakly. She twitched once and never moved again. "Mama!" Flames cried. Suddenly the badger roared. Flames ran looking back at his mother once before racing across the mountains. Into unknown territory.
