Doctor Temperance Brennan pelted alongside Booth; her auburn hair fell into her green eyes as she tried to keep her breath steady. She could see the man they were chasing ahead of her; responsible for six murders, all of them young women like herself. She longed to bring him to justice but first they had to catch him. They’d been on the trail whilst driving on 42nd Park Avenue when she seen him flee the scene. After pointing him out to Booth they’d begun the chase, and that was where they were now; running as hard as they could but still several meters behind. As they dashed across a road a small mini swerved and Brennan felt the breath rush out of her as it knocked her stomach, whilst her body told her to stop her mind told her to keep going...and Brennan always followed her mind. Pulling herself to her feet she continued running, knowing the voices behind her were telling her to stop. She looked around then looked back, the man was gone. She swore under her breath and staggered slightly, the effects of the crash getting to her slightly. Everything around her went fuzzy and for a moment she forgot where she was, much to her annoyance. Then there were two firm hands on her shoulders and she fell against them, knowing she was safe, with her Booth.
‘Keep running Booth’ Agent Seeley Booth sprinted beside his partner Temperance Brennan; or Bones as he affectionately called her. He wished he’d told her to stay in the van, it wasn’t safe to bring her out here, it was against all of his principles. This guy had killed six women, all around Bones’ age and Booth wasn’t going to let him strike again. But he knew that head strong Bones wouldn’t have stayed, she probably would have snuck out of the car, only to find herself in even more danger then she would’ve been in to start with. He’d done cases like this; this was his seventh serial killer case. This was a man who lusted after young women who would find that when they rejected him, he would kill them so they wouldn’t talk about what he might’ve done to them. It made Booth feel sick; the world was better off without people like him. He’d known that they wouldn’t find this guy on his address in the criminal offenders; people like him liked to move around so they couldn’t be tracked, fat chance. He glanced over quickly at his partner; he was amazed she kept going for so long, he knew for a fact she hadn’t had a decent night’s sleep for the past four days...let alone eaten a decent meal unless you count the coffee and pie he had managed to drag her out for this morning. Suddenly a small red mini came out of nowhere, he shouted to Brennan to dodge but as she jumped away the mini swerved and the two collided. Booth slammed to a halt and looked down at her “Bones are you OK?” he called worriedly, he looked down at her. Her hair was out of place and she was slightly paler. He dropped down beside her but she didn’t notice him. He watched in astonishment as she pulled herself back up and continued the chase; Booth knew it was only a matter of time before she collapsed. After working with her for three years he knew she’d collapse before she stopped willingly. He ran a few meters behind her, calling her name. She spun round for a moment, and then looked back. Booth saw the guy disappears into the darkness. He swore darkly and then caught sight of Brennan stumbling back and forth as if she were disorientated. He ran toward her and placed to steadying hands on her shoulders. She fell into his arms and he pulled her closer.
“We lost him” she said weakly
“I know Bones but we’ll find him again I promise, then we’ll catch him OK?” Booth whispered in her ear as he stroked her hair, trying to calm her. She nodded and closed her eyes and Booth knew she wouldn’t wake for some time.
